Here’s the dilemma. The whole photography world is in uproar over the new Nikons at the moment. There are phrases being banded around the ‘net like
The Nikon D3 is by far the bet DSLR ever made
and actually, I believe that’s true. But here’s the problem. It costs about £3,400. A Nikon D300 is about 1/3 of the cost. It costs over two thousand pounds less.
Let’s take a look at whether choosing the D3 really does mean you’re settling for second best. Oh and where to get a D3 for about £200 less than I paid for mine…
Nikon extends their cashback for the D40X

Another one of those posts where the title says it all… If you bought a D40, D40X or D80 between 1st November 2007 and 7th January 2008 then you could get some money back. Well, Nikon have extended this (though reduced the number of cameras in the scheme). Buy a D40X with a “qualifying” lens between 7th January 2008 and 29th February 2008 and you’ll get £40 back from Nikon.

Sony fanboy bulletin boards have been chattering about this for weeks. Now it’s official. Sony have just announced their first obsolete DSLR - the A100 which they introduced in mid 2006 is being retired and replaced by the imaginatively named A200.

My D3 arrived just before Christmas along with the beautiful 24 - 70 zoom lens. First impressions are that it is by far the best DSLR I’ve ever used. Seriously, it makes my beloved D2Xes look a little silly.

Buyers of the otherwise fantastic Nikon D40 have always felt a bit short changed in the lens department. One of Nikon’s key decisions was to save weight and money by dropping the old AF-D mount. The D40 can only use lenses with an AF-S mount. Until now this has limited users to mostly Nikon brand lenses.
