Sony DSC-S730 - first new camera of the new year?

Just a day or so of 2007 left and Sony may just have announced the “first” camera of 2008. Like a lot of the ‘07 cameras it will ship with 7 million pixels there’s also a 3X zoom and a 2.4″ LCD. Predictably, the press release also goes on about “unrivaled low light capability” (ISO 1250) and since it’s a Sony release “shooting stamina” (up to 440 pics per battery charge). You’d really think there’s nothing special about it. Until you see the price.

Buyers of the otherwise fantastic Nikon D40 have always felt a bit short changed in the lens department. One of Nikon’s key decisions was to save weight and money by dropping the old AF-D mount. The D40 can only use lenses with an AF-S mount. Until now this has limited users to mostly Nikon brand lenses.
